TENEDOU 53

PORTA PROJECT

Storquestudios together with artist Katrina Stamatopoulos undertook a three month residency as the first residents of Tenedou Space in Athens. Collaborating with Georgia Metaxas and Louis Porter from Tenedou 53, we created a working environment for the space during our stay, and for the future tenants.

From finding doors in the skip, to elements drawn from the construction work around Fokionos negri, Storquestudios spent time resurging potential material to make found forms functional. Working with local spaces such as Athens Makers Space, Wojciech Kawczyk developed a series of furniture and objects for Tenedou Space, and worked on ideas for his upcoming Athens Porta project.

Wojciech Kawczyk – “Walking through the streets of Athens, I noticed quite a big disposal of construction materials… my attention especially gravitated towards door panels and their frames appearing on every corner. This must be a good sign to show that some people are refurbishing apartments, and are simply deciding to go for qualities of new materials made for internal design.

Learning about Athens’ housing crisis and the globalisation of human migration, brings together ideas about removing important value from buildings’ tissue with no further concerns. My thinking trajectory provoked the thought that this action can be destructive… are we are “all” (referring to the word majority), wanting to replace current existing functional structures with ‘printer wood patterns’ and perfect factory petroleum based qualities?”
